Hermès’ Vintage Black Box Calfskin Kelly 28 is made of subtly shiny Box leather that is classically paired with gold-tone feet and hardware! The flap’s turnlock opens to a black-leather interior with one zipped and two slide pockets, and the single rolled handle has a drop of 3.5 inches. Previously loved and stamped with a V in a circle, it comes with a dustbag, lock (but no keys), clochette, detachable leather shoulder strap, and needs a bit of an airing out, has wear on the corners, edges, and handle, scratches on the hardware and feet, and marks on the exterior and interior leather. It’s true that Box leather, created by Joseph Box in the 1890s for luxury footwear, is easily marked but, in the right hands like the Hermès spa, surface scratches and scuffs can be easily buffed out to return this top handle to its former glory!
